Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker is the much-anticipated new title from writer Joe Casey for Image Comics. Casey’s most recent work can be seen in Avengers: The Origin for Marvel Comics and Final Crisis Aftermath: Dance for DC Comics. Taking on the art duties for this new title is Mike Huddleston whose frenetic, energetic work can be seen in titles from DC, IDW, and Oni Press amongst others. We’re almost finished, faithful readers! In the past two months, we’ve annotated the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth stories of Season 5 of the new Doctor Who series, starring Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. Now we continue with the two-part finale to the season: “The Pandorica Opens” and “The Big Bang.” As always: multi-episode stories from the Classic Series of Doctor Who are referred to by their chronological number (meaning the first four episodes of the DW Classic Series will be called “Story 01″), and stories of the…

In 2001, Chris Onstad created a webcomic whose quirky characters and off-beat sense of humor struck a resonant chord with the public. His small but devoted fan base grew, and Onstad rose to internet stardom, riding a wave a critical praise. His cast of cartoon cats and alcoholic, weed-smoking teddy bears captured our hearts with antics and mannerisms at times more human than realistic characters could express. But no more. After a months-long hiatus, interrupted only by a brief, illusory promise of his imminent return to comicing, Onstad has officially renounced his crown. Effectively immediate, he is no longer writing…

I don’t buy many video games these days. I fill in most of my gaming time with tabletop gaming, but when I do sit down for a day of video games, as I did this weekend, I start by downloading the latest demos and Arcade game trials. Having worked in the game development industry for a decade, I find this is enough to give me an idea about what’s out there, and also gives me bite-sized opportunities for quick fun. Very occasionally, a demo will encourage me to buy the full game. A little more frequently, I will unlock the…

My expectations when going in to see Sucker Punch were, admittedly, very low. All I understood from the trailer was that it was about an unjustly institutionalized girl, called “Baby Doll,” who goes into her imaginary world to find a way out of said mental ward. It looked ridiculous, and because it was from Zack Snyder, director of 300 and Watchmen, I assumed it would be about a bunch of hot tough girls with a lot of slow motion T&A shots. It wasn’t quite that, but I was still unprepared for the 109 minutes that flashed before my eyes. I…

Recently, I caught a prescreener of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s newest film, Paul. In this, Frost and Pegg play two stereotypical nerds: Pegg is Graeme (pronounced ‘Graham’ here in the colonies) Willy, while Frost plays Author Clive Gollings who is looking for his inspiration to a follow-up to his 1992 book. Graeme and Clive are enjoying ComiCon, and swinging through Area 51 and other UFO hotspots, when the pair happen upon Paul, voiced by Seth Rogan. Paul is an alien who crashed in 1947 on a science mission. All Paul wants is to get back to his planet in one…
