Since the beginning of artistic endeavors, there have been critics. When the first caveman scrawled the glory of his hunt on a cave wall, surely there was another caveman present to say “Why Grog use so much brown?” Without a doubt, Grog proceeded to mercilessly club the piss out of his critic and steal his wife from him.

Luckily for us here at Guerrilla Geek, critic clubbing is more or less a thing of the past. Every week we offer up our opinions of comics, games, movies and more. Some of it is awful, but some of it is good or even amazing. We felt that we should take a few moments out of our busy schedule to reward the truly remarkable things we were lucky enough to experience this year. In order to do that, we decided to start what we hope will be an annual tradition: The Golden Gorillas.

The Golden Gorillas are the awards we will be giving to stand outs in Music, Movies, Comics, Video Games and Television. At the beginning of December, all our contributors nominated their favorite works throughout the year. We then compiled a list of nominations and voted on them.

There was kicking, screaming and name-calling, but eventually we narrowed it down to 20 awards over the five categories. Starting next Monday we will begin announcing our favorite things of 2010 as determined by a democratic vote of all our contributors. So tune in and be prepared, because there will be blood…
