Announcing the Golden Gorilla Awards!

Since the beginning of artistic endeavors, there have been critics. When the first caveman scrawled the glory of his hunt on a cave wall, surely there was another caveman present to say “Why Grog use so much brown?” Without a doubt, Grog proceeded to mercilessly club the piss out of his critic and steal his wife from him. Luckily for us here at Guerrilla Geek, critic clubbing is more or less a thing of the past. Every week we offer up our opinions of comics, games, movies and more. Some of it is awful, but some of it is good…

Why Dollhouse Collapsed

I’m late to the party. When Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse premiered in 2009, I took a look at the premiere and, despite the presence of the weirdly disarming Tamoh Penikett, I yawned. When friends of mine started nagging me to give it another chance, I dug in and became stubborn about it. “Oh come on, they said, “at least check out Episode Six, when everything goes through the roof.” I dug in some more; my time is valuable, and I hate wasting it on bad TV. It never entirely disappeared from my radar though, and when both seasons showed up as available for…

Fearless Dawn: Review

In this day of worldwide internet communication and advances in publishing, the small press comic industry is more vibrant than ever. This climate is perfect for a comic like Asylum Press’ Fearless Dawn, which is a pulpy, fun, tongue-fully-in-cheek romp. This book contains everything a growing geek needs: Nazis, giant frogs, humor, attitude, and scantly-clad women… it’s all here. Steve Mannion writes and illustrates Fearless Dawn, and does a rather good job at both. While the art slumps at times, when it’s good, it’s really good. It is clear that Mannion is incredibly talented, but there are sometimes that the…

A Review with “True Grit”

There are certain people in Hollywood that provoke a reaction with the just the mention of their name: Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorsese. On very rare occasions someone becomes so iconic in their field that just being attached to a production suddenly makes it notable. The Coen Brothers have secured such notoriety long ago and are still providing content to cement their legacy. In the end, True Grit is just another Coen Brothers movie; that is to say it’s visually stunning, quirky, full of talented actors at the top of their craft and brazen in its dedication to the art of storytelling…
